That was the advice given to me by a group of women at the very first powered parachute fly-in we attended. We were talking about when it would be appropriate for Ava to go flying with Scott.

It was Friday afternoon and Ava said, “Mommy, can we go flying this weekend?” Knowing Scott didn’t have any airplanes reserved through the club and we were finally going to have nice weather, I told her that maybe she could go flying with Daddy on his Powered Parachute.

When daddy came home she told him that she would like to go flying with him. After making sure he could securely strap in her carseat, he decided to give it a go!

Scott explained to Ava that they would take off, fly around for a few minutes, and then land. If she liked it, they would go back up. If she didn’t, they would pack up and go home.

Ava all strapped in, ears protected, ready to go.

As soon as they landed I heard Ava say, “I want to go again! They took off again and went on an 18 minute flight.

A thumbs up before take off #2.

So happy to be flying.

I asked Scott how she did in the air and he said she just said, “wheeeeeeee” the whole time. Looks like he has a new co-pilot!

Six months ago Ava and I were over at a friends house for a playdate. Ava’s friend is 1 year older and was very much into princesses. I remember thinking that Ava would never be into princesses. She loved bugs, worms, science, and tools! Boy was I wrong. Ava watched The Little Mermaid in January and she has been Ariel ever since. I have the honor of being Prince Eric and Scott gets to be King Triton. When Ava is Ariel the mermaid, she lays on the floor pulling herself around the house with her arms. When she is Ariel the human, she no longer has a voice, and she is just starting to get her balance on her legs. At the park she climbs up onto rocks and sings, she finds hiding places and calls them her secret grotto. I am amazed how long this has lasted.

Wearing her Ariel dress. If it were up to her she would wear it everyday. (sorry sweetie but we’ve got to wash it sometime!)

Pretending to be Ariel in her hooded Ariel towel.

I have a video of Ava singing an Ariel song, so hopefully I can get it posted soon!

So when you see Ava and you say “Hi Ava!”, the response you’ll most likely get is, “I’m not Ava!” After 3 months, we’re still having a hard time remembering her name.

We woke up this morning and found all of the chairs at the dining room table knocked over and chocolate gold coins scattered around the table. We knew it must have been those mischievous leprechauns so Ava decided to build a leprechaun trap.

To entice the leprechauns into the trap Ava laid a cloth down for a bed (after all, they must be tired from all that chair tipping!), some lucky charms, a book on how to find gold, and a map to some gold.

While Ava was napping, those tricky leprechauns ate the lucky charms, took the book and the map, all without getting trapped! I guess we’ll have to try again next year.

Ava outside enjoying the spring weather on St. Patrick’s Day.
